The Medium & Mr Emmet takes a walk

A tribute to Sir Peter Maxwell Davies

We will meet two complex characters; enigmatic and contradictive to the audience. They tell stories from the past, present and future, all intermixed, and maybe some that are mere fantasies, bordering on madness?

The Medium is a woman who invites the audience to take part in her sessions, to start with she is leading those, but as time passes she gets snared in herself and her memories. Her character becomes more and more schizophrenic. Is she herself one of the clients? Has she murdered her child? Is she psychotic or is it all just a game? No instruments, no co-stars – just a voice.

Mr Emmet is at first sight a middle aged, successful business man ready to bring the best deal of his life to closure. Or is the walk down memory lane that we can follow all the time meant for another purpose: to end his life? The two commenting actors create characters and memories from Mr Emmets life. The two leading parts are played by Monica Danielsson and Olle Persson. The ten musicians from Gageego! play music spiced up with quotations from Bach’s fugues, Schumann’s sonatas and themes from Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

The piece will be performed in English.

    Cast

    Mr Emmet: Adrian Clarke
    Mr Todd: Karl Peter Eriksson

Directed by: Ola Beskow (Mr Emmet), Mattias Ermedahl (The Medium)

    Review in Seismograf

Danish Seismograf/DMT – dubbing itself the oldest and most modern music magazine in Scandinavia – reviewed Gageego!’s Nordic concert recently.

The ensemble is praised for a gritty choice of music and a no-compromises, first-class performance.

The review also touches upon the sometimes problematic polemics between different modern schools (the traditional instruments versus “freeer” sound art) and discusses whether any typical “Nordic” qualities exists in contemporary music.

  • The Music of Conflict: Madrid

    The Music of Conflict: Madrid

From the founding as a Moorish city in the 9th century until today, Madrid has remained a stage for conquests and siege, the center of a world empire, political tension, war and terror – but also great artistic drama.

The chamber ensemble Gageego! continues its exploration of contemporary music metropolises. This time, music, composers and cities are being contrasted against ongoing or past conflicts – political as well as artistic.

It is also a testament to how widely different expressions can tell us aspects about the same struggle, about the same experience.

Note that this concert takes place in the Great Hall, with audiences and musicians on the podium – you can’t get any closer closer to the music!

Also, don’t miss the chat with a featured composer at 5 PM (included in ticket price). Gothenburg Concert Hall offers discounts for subscribers and students.
