“Cheeky, comical, scenically and musically well-tuned”

The singers in the opera performance Where Did All the Sensible Straight Men Go?

“The opening of Man Must Sing’s new world premiere immediately made me perk up when flutist Anders Jonhäll began with a delicious introductory drill to what would become a cheeky, comical, scenically and musically well-tuned little opera performance.”

alba.nu – the online magazine about culture, science and society – has seen Gageego! and Man Must Sing’s latest collaboration: “Where did all the sensible heterosexuals go?”, which just had its world premiere at Atalante in Gothenburg. The writer Britt Nordberg appreciatively describes Fredrik Österling’s music, Klas Abrahamsson’s libretto and Gunilla J Gyllenspetz’s direction, and specifically mentions Gageego!’s efforts as an opera orchestra.

“Cello virtuoso My Hellgren and percussionist Jonas Larsson also make their instrumental excursions, not least the latter, as when the increasingly heated dialogue between the three singers, who all feel cheated in one way or another and agree to demand revenge, takes on a magnificent pair of garden shears (it looks like) as a complementary instrument.”
