SUMMARY:Jag vet inte vem jag är och jag älskar det
DESCRIPTION:Opera for primary school children [performed in Swedish]\n\nWho are you when you wake up? Are you the same person who went to bed the night before? Have you ever woken up\, the alarm rings and breakfast is on the table\, everything is as usual but you have forgotten your name? Does it sometimes feel like your name is Belinda when your real name is Edvin? Do you suddenly feel like a girl when you are a boy? How does your family react to this news\, how do they take these\, the transformations of the night? \n\n“I Don’t Know Who I Am and I Love It” is about a fluid identity and a negotiable identification\, a queer opera in Swedish for elementary school children\, a story about how tired you are of being seen as one type when deep down you are completely different. How an ordinary morning can become the most unusual morning ever. What “unusual” is. \n\nLibretto: Kristian HallbergMusic: Daniel FjellströmDirected by: Gunilla J GyllenspetzStage Design/Costume: Heidi SaikkonenLighting Design: Christofer W FogelbergMakeup Design: Linda af Boije Gennäs \n\nMan Must Sing\n\nEdvin – Nina EwaldThe Mother – Amanda FlodinThe Father – Karl Peter Eriksson \n\nGageego!\n\nPercussion: Jonas LarssonCello: My Hellgren

SUMMARY:Gageego! 30 years
DESCRIPTION:Open your ears and clear your mind. Gageego! is the endlessly curious chamber ensemble celebrating 30 years of music in 2025. This celebratory concert presents a look back at three decades of music. \n\nThe audience’s response propels Gageego! to continuously push forward\, towards new discoveries. Gageego! from Gothenburg have been praised in the music world for their fearless dedication to newly composed music. The ensemble has toured Denmark\, Russia and China. “A Swedish away victory!” “It made the audience forget their fatigue!” wrote the press after concerts in Vienna. \n\nThis celebratory concert presents a look back at three decades of music\, from the debut concert focused on American composer Stuart Saunders Smith to a premiere performance of music by Esaias Järnegard. The audience will also hear works by the modern great Pierre Boulez and Paris-based Madeleine Isaksson. This is music that is both challenging and richly rewarding. \n\n\n\nIntroduction\n\nArrive at the Stenhammarfoajé one hour before the concert starts and meet Esaias Järnegard\, Anders Jonhäll\, Johanna Persson\, and several of the evening’s composers for a conversation about the music. \n\nThe introduction lasts approximately 30 minutes\, is free of charge\, and seating is unreserved. DESCRIPTION:Opera for middle school\n\nCan you forgive the person you love when they have done something stupid to your friend? And what is it like to be forgiven\, is everything really cool after that? \n\n“Jag har aldrig känt så här för någon och det är inte en grej jag säger till alla” (“I’ve never felt this way about anyone and it’s not something I tell everyone”) is a newly written opera in Swedish\, performed by Man Must Sing and Gageego!. SUMMARY:Music by Klaus Lang Lisa Streich
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Göteborg International Organ Festival and GAS 2024\, Gageego! will present a program of works by Klaus Lang and Lisa Streich. \n\n\n\nThe concert opens with Seraph\, a work for cello and organ that Lisa Streich composed in 2013 and which Gageego! performed this year during a digital pandemic concert. Now it finally gets to reverbate in the same space as the audience. We hear Johan Stern on cello and the festival’s artistic director Hans Davidsson on organ. \n\nThen follows Klaus Lang’s newly written Kaihogyo for organ and chamber ensemble. Gageego! premiered the work during the Kalvfestivalen this summer and this is the second time it has been performed in public. The name comes from the seven-year pilgrimage that the Buddhist Tendai monks make around Mount Hiei. Kaihogyo is performed with the composer himself at the organ and Gageego!\, consisting of: \n\nAnders Jonhäll fluteRagnar Arnberg clarinetJonas Larsson percussionKlara Hellgren violinManon Briau violaJohan Stern cello \n\nMark Tatlow conductor \n\nMark Tatlow\, Gageego! and Klaus Lang\n\nProgramme\n\nLisa Streich SeraphKlaus Lang Kaihogyo

SUMMARY:VII — Reunion\, Lightheartedness\, Thunder
DESCRIPTION:The closing concert of the 2024 Calf Festival features music by Thomas Tallis\, Arvo Pärt\, Sofia Gubaidulina\, Luigi Nono and Joseph Haydn. \n\nA musical journey and festival come to an end. The 20th anniversary is over\, and we take part in music that echoes through several centuries. \n\nWe arrive at the old church with peace signs collected from nature. Is there any hope left? \n\nThe earth gives up its spirit and returns to its creator. A sudden thunderstorm and even an earthquake; for a moment all hell breaks loose. An ancient melody dissolves the ensuing silence. Then a song of a morning star is heard… \n\nPerformed by\n\n\n \n Gageego!\n \n \n \n ensemble mosaik\n \n \n \n Mark Tatlow\n \n \n \n Elena Gabbrielli\n \n \n \n Klaus Lang\n \n \n \n Chris du Preez\n \n \n The Kalv Choir\n \n\n\n Tickets are bought at the concert venue before the concert.\n \n\nConcerts 200 SEKFestival pass 500 SEK

SUMMARY:Kaihogyo
DESCRIPTION:The first concert during Kalv Festival 2024 is a premiere of Klaus Lang’s kaihogyo for organ and ensemble. Gageego! performs together with the composer himself as organ soloist and the festival’s curator Mark Tatlow as conductor. \n\nKlaus Lang\n\nKlaus Lang is an Austrian organist and composer who has developed a distinctive musical language. With a conviction that beauty cannot be found in ornamented symbols\, color spectacles or splendor – rather in shades of gray\, in the imperfect and in traces of what has disappeared – and with a belief that beauty arises in the listener and not in the considered object\, Lang creates a music that makes the listener turn their attention inward and see the beauty in itself. We encounter an approach that is most easily described as Buddhist. Not only in relation to sound\, but also to life. Instead of imposing his meaning\, Lang lets the musical vibrations become open questions\, as if every impulse\, every persevering or broken tone becomes a humble question of an existential nature. A music that defends itself against conveying a message and instead makes the listener move towards a contemplative state – a freedom. \n\nKlaus Lang sees music as a free and independent acoustic object. In his music\, he does not want to use sounds but rather let the sounds be explored and given an opportunity to develop its inherent rich beauty. Only when sound is allowed to be just sound can it be experienced as what it actually is: a temporal phenomenon – audible time. Klaus Lang views time as the composer’s genuine material\, and at the same time as the fundamental content of music. According to his view\, musical material is: time experienced through sound. The purpose of music is to create experiences of time through listening. Music is audible time. \n\nProgramme\n\nKlaus Lang kaihogyo \n\nPerformed by\n\nGageego!Klaus Lang organMark Tatlow conductor

SUMMARY:In Memoriam Kaija Saariaho
DESCRIPTION:Photo: Priska Ketterer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGageego! participating during the Göteborg International Organ Festival is a tradition. This year\, the concert is dedicated to the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho\, who passed away this summer. \n\n\n\nAfter her breakthrough in the 1980s\, Saariaho came to be regarded as one of today’s most respected composers. In a survey this year\, the BBC asked 174 composers to state which living colleague they had the most respect for. Saariaho topped the list. \n\n\n\nMuch of her music is inspired by the sounds and sights of nature; Finnish lakes and summer forests meant more to her creation than the strict serialism that dominated her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. She has since commented on the limitations of the then popular mathematical structures: \n\n\n\n– You were not allowed to use pulse\, or tonally oriented harmonies\, or melodies. I don’t want to write music through negations. Everything is allowed as long as it is done in good taste. \n\n\n\nA grand Gageego!\n\n\n\nTo do the repertoire justice is Gageego! augmented by a number of eminent musicians. SUMMARY:Magnetic Fields – Magic Realism
DESCRIPTION:This evening’s programme is permeated by sounds of attraction. As if conjured up by magnetism\, sounds are produced in the most diverse and imaginative ways when Gageego! plays limitless music by Cleare\, Holloway-Nahum and Iannotta. \n\n\n\nIt is as if the music is invoked from whence it was previously barely possible to discern a contour of something. The words of philosopher Timothy Morton frame the entire process: \n\n\n\n“Every aesthetic trace\, every footprint of an object\, sparkles with absence.Sensual things are elegies to the disappearance of objects.” \n\n\n\nPerformed by\n\n\n\nGageego!\nAaron Holloway-Nahum conductor\nIvo Nilsson trombone \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nAnn Cleare on magnetic fields\nAaron Holloway-Nahum Days\, distance\, Days – commissioned work\, first performance\nClara Iannotta We left her in a sack for fairies to reclaim \n\n\n\nConducted by composer Holloway-Nahum \n\n\n\nAmerican composer Aaron Holloway-Nahum has established himself as one of the key players on the British contemporary music scene. Although his career as a composer is impressive in its own right – he has composed on commission for\, among others\, the London Symphony Orchestra\, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Third Coast Percussion – he has also had time to immerse himself and achieve success as a recording producer\, conductor and art entrepreneur. \n\n\n\nAaron Holloway-Nahum is the conductor\, CEO and artistic director of The Riot Ensemble\, an organization whose work has generated more than £650\,000 in contributions to the performance of contemporary music and which has premiered more than 250 original compositions. Aaron Holloway-Nahum’s music has been performed in around 20 countries worldwide and is characterized by its many details\, ornate timbres\, bold melodic unisons and experimental narrative structures. \n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Timelines
DESCRIPTION:Gageego! celebrates two pioneers: György Ligeti – who would have celebrated his 100th birthday next year – is celebrated with his wonderful 10 Pieces for Woodwind Quintet\, and Karlheinz Stockhausen with the iconic Zeitmasse\, the work that brought serialism to the time dimension. We also cast an eye towards the pioneers of the future in Swedish-French composer Madeleine Isaksson’s ingeniously layered web of sounds and timelines\, Sondes\, and in the Visby-based American Joseph Lake’s sprawling\, vast and meditative This is one small stone in an entire city of monuments I am building for you. \n\nHungarian composer György Ligeti is one of the most important artists of the post-war period. He is in many ways a panorama through which the late musical achievements of the 20th century can be discerned\, both through his aesthetic transformations and his varied residence: from labor camps under Nazism\, to the avant-garde idealistic Central European mecca in Cologne\, to Hollywood star-studded shimmer through not least film director Stanley Kubrick’s recurring use of his music. \n\nZeitmasse is one of the German pioneer composer Karlheinz Stockhausen‘s real breakthrough works. Like several of Stockhausen’s pieces\, there are often shelves of analyzes to delve into. Overall\, Zeitmasse is a first implementation of the systematics of serialism in the time dimension. Before that\, serialism had only been found in the structuring of pitches\, in Zeitmasse Stockhausen goes a step further. \n\nMadeleine Isaksson‘s music is characterized by the floating and shimmering. The meticulous sounds are like layered tonal sculptures. There is a sensibility\, and impressionistic color scheme that appears to explain why she decided to settle in Paris many years ago. Isaksson’s music looks organic\, as if under the pace of music grows and takes shape – becomes form. \n\nFor a number of years\, the American composer Joseph Lake has lived in Visby\, where he teaches at Gotland’s composer school. An environment and place that is not so strange when you consider the sounds that Lake has been exploring for a long time. His musical appearance is characterized by a silence and a deep fascination for the richness of the individual tone. \n\nThis evening we will experience all this\, with the Gothenburg-based ensemble Gageego! and conductor Rei Munakata. \n\nBut tickets

SUMMARY:Hans Ek\, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra\, Elefantöra & Gageego!
DESCRIPTION:BEATS\, SOUNDS AND STRINGS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConductor and composer Hans Ek joins forces with ShareMusic & Performing Arts ensemble Elefantöra\, contemporary music specialists Gageego! and the strings of the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. The result is a sound experience born of a vision of inclusion and equality. You can’t label this music\, it’s floating freely in the borderland between electronica and art music. \n\n\n\nBEATS\, SOUNDS AND STRINGS is a shape-shifting musical journey\, consisting of a completely new work by Hans Ek commissioned by ShareMusic & Performing Arts – side by side with arrangements / re-mixes of music by\, among others\, Kraftwerk\, Brian Eno and Claude Vivier in arrangement by Hans Ek. All this together with the string sections of Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. The electronic world and instruments of Elefantöra merge with Gageego’s acoustic presence\, and any differences are blurred by the almost electronic sound of the strings. \n\n\n\nIn this collaboration\, Hans Ek has created a new work by building directly on layers of beats created by Elefantöra. The base is a sampling library that Elefantöra in turn har created in collaboration with Gageego !. The vision of an inclusive and equal world is the core of music. We meet in the borderland between electronica and art music – at the crossroads where all the beaty is born. \n\n\n\nShareMusic’s vision is based on everyones right to express themselves artistically in a world where our differences are seen as valuable. Their work is based on human rights and the equal value of all human beings\, especially people with disabilities. This musical collaboration pays homage to the beauty that is created where different perspectives meet. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nIn the words of Hans Ek\n\n\n\nThe project has started unconditionally and with equal emphasis on acoustic and electronic expressions. It will be both ambient and rhythmic. This is what the composer himself says: \n\n\n\n–That feeling you can get when you watch a movie without knowing what it is – you just get into something and get swept away by it. You get on the ride and trust it somehow\, and just experience it. I always hope for that kind of listening with the audience. And here\, there are good preconditions for that. \n\n\n\nThis is not Hans Ek’s first cross-border project. The list of exciting collaborations is long: Zara Larsson\, Laleh\, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus (of ABBA)\, Veronica Maggio\, Ane Brun\, Renée Fleming\, Michael Nyman\, Metropole Orkest\, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra\, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra\, Copenhagen Phil and many more. \n\n\n\nHans worked for 10 years worked as the artistic director of Polar Music Prize. In recent years\, Hans Ek’s own productions have been heard frequently both in Sweden and abroad. An example of this is E.S.T. Symphony\, Bowie in Berlin\, Eno remixed for orchestra\, Chelsea Hotel\, Kosmische Musik\, Made by Björk\, Studio 54-Disco Inferno and Dance Music Symphony. \n\n\n\nAnd now another adventure awaits. You are invited. \n\n\n\nRead the full interview with Hans Ek on ShareMusic’s website! Hans Ek will also present his thoughts in connection with the concert in Helsingborg. \n\n\n\nThe event kicks off on June 10 at Tryckeriet\, where visitors are invited to a hypnotic\, rhythm-laden but also ambient sound journey. The concert is part of H22 City Expo and tickets are free\, but must be reserved online. \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nEk Beats Sounds and Strings / Original PerformanceKraftwerk Franz SchubertMoon Dog New AmsterdamVivier Pulau DewataPärt Silouans SongEno Emerald and LimeKraftwerk Franz SchubertEk Beats Sounds and Strings (Part 1 2 3) \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nReserve tickets

SUMMARY:Gageego! & Ensemble l’Itinéraire
DESCRIPTION:What is spectral music? The French Ensemble l’Itinéraire knows this pretty well. As early as the 1980s they created music that changes “timbres by bringing together orchestral masses”. \n\nThis is about chamber music\, but the principle is the same\, and it is most obvious when you hear the music. In collaboration with Gageego! the Ensemble l’Itinéraire explores a French genre unique in its aesthetics. \n\nProgramme\n\nGérard Grisey Stèle 7Xavier Leroux De l’épaisseurGrégoire Lorieux New workNúria Giménez Comas Abraxas MGérard Grisey PartielsNúria Giménez Comas Light Forces

SUMMARY:Music free in their systems
DESCRIPTION:Georg Friedrich Haas sets the tone for this concert with his ambivalent piece AUS:WEG. Which can mean “the way out” or “stop\, get out”. But it is also open to other interpretations. Which the composer pointed out\, amused… \n\n\n\nNew works from the Swedish composers Kajsa Antonsson and Esaias Järnegard (a veteran in the Gageego! context) are just waiting to surprise the audience with their creations. The concert ends with Anton Webern’s fascinating Variations for piano from 1936\, which in six minutes guides the listener through boundless rooms. Are you in or already out? \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nGeorg Friedrich Haas AUS.WEGKajsa Antonsson New work for ensemble (commissioned by Gageego!)Esaias Järnegard New work for ensemble (commissioned by Gageego!)Anton Webern Variations for Piano

SUMMARY:Scenes from a Polyamorous Marriage
DESCRIPTION:Marie\, Ann and Johan have been together for over ten years and have two children in common. After exploring identities during adolescence\, all three landed in a pansexual polyamorous position. \n\n When we meet them\, however\, the everyday grip with toddler logistics\, weekly shopping\, career priorities\, bathroom renovations\, and so on\, has put parts of life on autopilot. A dull scent of boredom has crept in. Like most parents of young children\, they struggle and have found a decent balance. However\, the balance is disturbed as suddenly as unexpectedly. \n\nA drastically humorous chamber opera with eternal themes of love\, morality\, responsibility and tolerance. Performed in Swedish. \n\nMusic: Marie SamuelssonLibretto: Klas AbrahamssonDirector: Gunilla Johansson GyllenspetzArt Director/Costume: Martin ErikssonLighting Design: Christofer W FogelbergMake-up: Linda Boije af Gennäs \n\nMan Must Sing\n\nMarie: Nina EwaldAnn: Amanda FlodinJohan: Karl Peter Eriksson \n\nGageego!\n\nClarinet: Gustav WetterbrandtCello: Frida BromanderPercussion: Jonas Larsson \n\nFew seats\n\nDue to the pandemic\, only 25 seats are available each night.
