SUMMARY:Scenes from a Polyamorous Marriage
DESCRIPTION:Marie\, Ann and Johan have been together for over ten years and have two children in common. After exploring identities during adolescence\, all three landed in a pansexual polyamorous position. When we meet them\, however\, the everyday grip with toddler logistics\, weekly shopping\, career priorities\, bathroom renovations\, and so on\, has put parts of life on autopilot. A dull scent of boredom has crept in. Like most parents of young children\, they struggle and have found a decent balance. However\, the balance is disturbed as suddenly as unexpectedly. \n\nA drastically humorous chamber opera with eternal themes of love\, morality\, responsibility and tolerance. Performed in Swedish. \n\nPerformed at Cinnober Teater with eight persons in the audioence. Book your seat by sending an email to manmustsing@gmail.com! SUMMARY:Spaces of Sounds
DESCRIPTION:Älvsborg & GIOA Quarantine Concerts presents Gageego! and organist Ligita Sneibe\, live on YouTube och Facebook. \n\n\n\nWorks by Jenny Hettne\, Madeleine Isaksson and Sven-Eric Johanson. Conducted by Rei Munakata and introduced by Esaias Järnegard. \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nSven-Eric Johanson Concerto for organ and string orchestraMadeleine Isaksson Ici est ailleurs\, for flute\, percussion\, violin\, viola\, cello and double bassJenny Hettne Backdrifting \n\n\n\nFeaturing\n\n\n\nOrgan: Ligita Sneibe Conductor: Rei Munakata Violin: Øyvor Volle\, Helena Frankmar Viola: Tuula Fleivik Cello: Johan Stern Double bass: Thomas Allin Flutes: Anders Jonhäll Trombone: Endre Vetås Piano/Harmonium: Karin Birgersson Percussion: Jonas Larsson\, Martin Ödlund Moderator: Esaias Järnegard \n\n\n\nAbout the music\n\n\n\nConcerto for organ and string orchestra (1946) is an early work by Sven-Eric Johanson (1919-1977) in three movements: Allegro moderato\, Adagio ma non troppo and Allegro elastico. During his years in Uppsala\, Johanson composed this concerto for the wedding of his friends Märta and Lars Edlund. The style is characterized by Hindemith’s musical language\, a composer whose compositional technique was admired and studied by the young Swedish composers in the so-called Monday group to which Johanson belonged. For 25 years\, between 1952 and 1977\, Sven-Eric Johanson was organist in Älvsborg’s church. To our knowledge\, today’s performance is the first time that the work is performed in its entirety on the sounds of this colorful and distinct instrument in Älvsborg’s church. \n\n\n\nIci est ailleurs [Here Is Elsewhere] for flute\, percussion\, violin\, viola\, cello and double bass was composed out of a form tableau\, inspired by a photographic work by artist Jean-Louis Garnell\, the triptych M 96. Composer Madeleine Isaksson (b. 1956) chose to call these three pictures (in French) Ici – est – ailleurs\, (in Swedish) Här – är – annorstädes\, [Here – Is – Elsewhere]. These basic parts are surrounded by an introduction (Prologue) and two interludes: Intervalle 1 and 2. When folded horizontally and vertically\, each movement contains its contrary mirror\, Ici/Ailleurs and Ailleurs/Ici. The encounter takes place in Est\, as in the flowing movement which introduce and conclude the work. In Ici the string trio\, violin\, viola and cello play the main part\, the double bass and flute are of secondary importance. In Ailleurs the relationship is reversed. A similar relationship is found in Intervalle 1 och 2. The percussion is present throughout the piece\, but plays a main part in Est where the horizontal replaces the vertical range and role play of the other movements. \n\n\n\nBackdrifting (2006) is an exploration of sound and timbre of the five inhomogeneous instruments\, composed by Jenny Hettne (b. 1977). It is built up by two very different materials\, both however relating to the transformation of an electroacoustic sound world into acoustic instruments. The first part of the piece is created out of spectral analysis of environmental sounds recorded in India\, resulting in a harmonically and rhythmically chaotic material. The second part is inspired by the electronics in a Radiohead-song called “Backdrifts”\, a simple rhythm and harmony\, but a great variety of timbre. \n\n\n\n\nWatch on YouTube\n\n\n\nWatch on Facebook\n\n\n\n\nPresented in partnership with Sensus. \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Prèmiere [cancelled]
DESCRIPTION:Profilic composer Malin Bång has worked with the composition class of the Academy of music and drama in Gothenburg. The concert presents several first performances – a unique possibility to taste what’s on right now in contemporary music. \n\n\n\nSo how has Malin Bång and her composition students dealt with this challenge? It’s a privilege for the Gothenburg audience to discover. \n\n\n\nMalin Bång explored early on the acoustic instrument’s capabilities of producing other sounds than traditional tones. Instead\, her music often explores movement and energy. This is a concert that promises exciting encounters with the unpredictable\, with contrasts\, intensity and intimacy. \n\n\n\nMalin Bång writes about her own piece: \n\n\n\n“There are many memories from my childhood in Sävedalen that are strongly associated with sounds and tones. Our townhouse was close to both an ice cream factory\, a garbage station\, the railroad and the motor way. This counterpoint of constant noise that goes on in the distance was the soundtrack that always were present and constituted our version of silence … If the noise of a gradually changing nature constitutes the foundation of the piece\, these influential experiences arise as fragments in the noise and act as bridges between the surroundings and the activities of life … By composing this piece\, I have with pleasure and a certain dose of nostalgia explored the neighborhoods of my childhood\, and have had the opportunity to rediscover the sounds with a new\, precise listening.” \n\n\n\nThe concert also features a work by Swiss composer Katharina Rosenberger\, who works in a similar spirit. \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nKatharina Rosenberger Shift Malin Bång blooming brume – first performance\, commissioned by Gageego!Joshua Wat (composition student HSM) Low Fidelity – first performanceNino Håkansson (composition student HSM) Tackatta – first performance \n\n\n\nIt doesn’t get any newer than this. \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nFind your seat \n\n\n\nThe Gothenburg Concert Hall offers discounts for students and senior citizens.

DESCRIPTION:Gageego! celebrates one of the most prolific composers of our time\, Salvatore Sciarrino. With fifty symphonic pieces\, chamber music is still the most peeled-back way to approach his music\, which is rich in contrasts and innovation.\n\nThose who listen to Sciarrino become aware of themselves and their feelings. The music is introverted and expansive at the same time\, sometimes like pigeons in a forest\, sometimes like hyperventilating despair. You have to be quite the flautist to manage these sharp turns.\nSciarrino’s titles refer to the mysticism of music\, like this thing about understanding how to reach the enchanted. But the music also celebrates the three classical graces. These goddesses were responsible for the good things in life\, such as joy\, beauty and wisdom. In Sciarrino’s flute music\, they make their mother\, the goddess Venus\, bloom. \nThe flute can rest in Sarah Nemtsov’s partially amplified music and in ‘b’ by Simon Løffler. Electrifying opportunities\, such as light and the tension in the musicians’ own bodies\, are explored. \nComposer Conversation\nDon’t miss the composer conversation one hour before the start of the concert\, where musicians from the ensemble talk to one of the evening’s composers. All questions are welcome. From the audience as well. \nProgramme\nSalvatore Sciarrino Hermes\nSimon Løffler b\nSalvatore Sciarrino Come vengono prodotti gli incantesimi?\nSalvatore Sciarrino Canzona di ringraziamento\nSara Nemtsov Seven Colours\nSalvatore Sciarrino Venere le grazie la fioriscono

SUMMARY:Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Gageego! start their season with well established contemporary music. Some of the dreamiest music you can hear. \nAlongside Norrbotten NEO\, they perform American\, British and Italian works that have been performed and loved again and again on the big concert stages of the world. \nHelen Grime is one of the best established\, young\, British composers of today. Her pieces have been performed at BBC Proms\, and opened the London Symphony Orchestra’s 2017/2018 concert season. She is a worthy opener of Gageego!’s concert series in every sense. \nThis particular concert offers several well-known names such as John Cage and Morton Feldman. It’s music that gives you space to think\, sense\, dream\, experience. In that sense\, the concert is not just a meeting with new music and fantastic musicians; the attentive listener will meet both themselves and Narcissus\, the god who fell in love with his own reflection and was turned into a narcissus flower. \nNorrbotten NEO have spent around 10 years at the front edge of chamber music\, with a national task to work for contemporary chamber music. This evening\, they’ll meet their colleagues from the west. \nProgramme\nHelen Grime Piano Concerto\nSalvatore Sciarrino Raffigurar Narciso al fonte\nMorton Feldman Between Categories\nAureliano Cattaneo Giano\, Repainted\nJohn Cage Concerto for Piano

SUMMARY:From Croft to Grisey
DESCRIPTION:In 2018 – 2019\, Gageego! goes out hunting for contemporary links\, the starting point being composers that the ensemble has longed to perform for a long time and favourite composers.\nBased on these Gageego! icons\, the ensemble has searched\, traced and sniffed out (googled!) its way to the different composers’ respective influence on the world of music and later composers. Seek and you will find\, listen and you will dream… \nGrisey’s Vortex Temporum is the central piece with its whirling sounds and arpeggios\, but is given a new light here by the two young composers John Croft\, from New Zealand\, and Irish Ann Cleare\, who take the legacy of spectral music into a new era of tonal and spatially explorative music. The chains become long lines and brittle whispers – harshly beautiful. \nProgramme\nJohn Croft Trio (Seirenes III)\nAnn Cleare I Should Live in Wires for Leaving You Behind\nGérard Grisey Vortex Temporum \nTickets

SUMMARY:The Man Hanged
DESCRIPTION:A visual\, perhaps disturbing\, performance\, based on the modern classic Eight Songs for a Mad King\, with music by Peter Maxwell Davies and libretto by Randolph Stow. \nThis production\, made specially for the Halland Opera & Vocal Festival\, features barytone Joa Helgesson\, who most recently starred in the title role in the highly acclaimed Gothenburg production of Phantom of the Opera. \nThe main character is King George III\, ruler of Great Britain 1760 – 1820. George has reoccurring episodes of mental illness\, suffering from hallucinations while being painfully aware of his failing condition. During his first periods of madness\, he is treated with torture\, starvation and bloodletting. He is kept in a stable\, treated like an animal. These methods\, not uncommon for its day\, have\, not surprisingly\, a deteriorating effect for the royal patient. \nIn this rendition of Eight Songs for a Mad King\, the ensemble brings a new level of reality by incorporating Body Suspension into the performance.   Hooks\, pierced through the performers’ skin\, will allow them to levitate\, while the biophysical instrument Xth Sense picks up bodily noises and transforming them to electroacoustic music. \nJoa Helgesson and the ensemble use these stage devices to create a very visual and corporal representation of the “extreme physical and mental impact” that composer Peter Maxwell Davies calls for. \nOn stage we meet Doctor Anna who teaches us about the biology of pain in the lecture The Story of a Body Named George\, opera singer Joa Helgesson\, the fakirs from Santa Sangre Body Rituals and dancer Shannon Taylor. The piece is co-performed by Gageego! – ensemble for new music.

SUMMARY:The Medium & Mr Emmet takes a walk
DESCRIPTION:A tribute to Sir Peter Maxwell Davies\nWe will meet two complex characters; enigmatic and contradictive to the audience. They tell stories from the past\, present and future\, all intermixed\, and maybe some that are mere fantasies\, bordering on madness? \nThe Medium is a woman who invites the audience to take part in her sessions\, to start with she is leading those\, but as time passes she gets snared in herself and her memories. Her character becomes more and more schizophrenic. Is she herself one of the clients? Has she murdered her child? Is she psychotic or is it all just a game? No instruments\, no co-stars – just a voice. \nMr Emmet is at first sight a middle aged\, successful business man ready to bring the best deal of his life to closure. Or is the walk down memory lane that we can follow all the time meant for another purpose: to end his life? The two commenting actors create characters and memories from Mr Emmets life.
